1931 Wolverine No.48 Zilotone with Partial Original Box
Classic steel litho clockwork Sandy Andy Zilotone manufactured by Wolverine. Beautiful high grade excellent to excellent+ condition and works perfectly. Includes all six original steel litho disks plus four partial panels of its original box. Weighing over a pound and half, yet less than 10" long, the mechanics of the toy are based on the early musical disk players such as Regina. But in addition it incorporates a synchronized mechanical figure. This tin litho clown figure moves right and left, simultaneously raising and lowering a hammer to strike the correct notes of a large xylophone. A "record" or disk controls the clown figure. This record consists of two metal disks riveted together in the center. Locked into place on a rotating clockwork turntable, the bottom side of the disk with it's buzz-saw like edge cuts dictates where and when the clown will strike. This means it's a fairly complex delicate toy which was easy for children to break. Separately packed complex directions were probably quickly lost. Not placing the disk correctly or forcing the position of the clown would easily break it, as many of them were. The toy includes all six of its original metal disks. Each one forces the clown to play a different tune. In total the disks weigh over half a pound. Here's what's included. Also included are four partial panels from the original box. They were printed in color. Photo's of each are provided below. It's a narrow walled heavy paper stock, not cardboard.
